Composing Music

As well as writing music for Braw, Iain is a professional songwriter, a published composer and arranger. He is a versatile writer of music, but regardless of genre he loves a memorable melody.

Should you wish to enquire about commissioning a work from Iain, please fill out the contact form below or drop him an email. He can write for any ensemble, but specialises in music for brass.

When it comes to songwriting, Iain is open to working with artists who have written lyrics but are in need of music. Should you also want to record your music professionally, he can arrange this with his local Glasgow studio and even multi-track all your instruments as a multi-instrumentalist. Feel free to get in touch about songwriting and recording packages.

Matonizz

Clients...

Algirdas Matonis is a Lithuanian-born euphonium player. He currently serves as a Principal Euphonium at the River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh and travels internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and clinician.

Releasing music as Matonizz, we have been working together for the last couple of years creating content for his vast internet following, being the most subscribed euphonium player on YouTube.

I would categorise the music I write for him and his band as 'Brass-Pop', and to my knowledge I'm one of the only composers who is regularly commissioned to write music in this style.

the stevos Duo

The Stevos are an innovative husband and wife duo, born through quarantine, producing and performing unique covers and originals.

Journey's End was a song I wrote for them during lockdown, and was their first foray into recording and producing original music.

They regularly perform at weddings and events, and are best contacted through their Facebook Page or via email: thestevosduo@gmail.com

In February 2021, The Scottish Brass Band Association commissioned 12 pieces of music for youth bands from four of Scotland's leading composers and arrangers of brass music. I was delighted to accept the invitation to take part in the project as one of the four composers, which was made possible through funding from Creative Scotland.

Whitburn Band kingly ran through the three pieces I composed for the project, which can viewed below.

All three works have been published by Just Music, and are available to order from their website via the links provided alongside additional works since the project.

A second pop suite for junior band in three movements, written for four-part flexible brass.

A selection of my earlier brass band works are published by and available to digitally purchase from Mode For Publishing.

These include test piece "The Island of the White Stag", which came second in the Scottish Brass Band Association's inaugural Young Scottish Composer Competition in 2017.
